As I was prepping the canoe for launch, Jack went down and had a cast with a Mepp's Black Fury spinner. He got a good rainbow on the first cast!
I wanted to think it was going to be a crazy day. But it turned out to be pretty slow. I had my foam blowfly with a Copper John nymph combo from the day before and I hooked a good rainbow. I soon broke it off, oh well.
The river was high from the recent rain but it was still pretty clear. The trout were not attacking the spinner like we had hoped.
I hooked a nice rainbow on a soft bait and it ran under the boat and jumped straight in and actually landed in the net.
Aside from that, we just cruised down to have a look at the river and see what had changed. I had a few cracks at big browns in one of the spring creeks but spooked them all except for one I missed the strike on.
We were out around mid day, as per the original plan, and we both decided it was a hell of a lot of fun anyway.
