Pelts

At Feathergirl we pelt only the finest birds.

Our pelts are harvested from feral New Zealand bird species. They are skinned from birds harvested by hunting. Then they are stretched and dried before the skin side is scraped clean. We only skin perfect birds with minimal blemishes so you are getting the very best feathers from our first grade pelts. They are completely natural and unaltered in any way. Second grade pelts are just that; they have some damage or missing feathers and are priced to sell. 

 A pelt is like an artist’s palette; you select the colour and size of feather you want as you go. Feathers are easily removed individually and pelts can be stored in the freezer when not in use. And guess what? You get way more feathers than buying them loose. Alas, some people do not like the idea of working with dead animal skin. That is fine and why we have our loose feathers available.
