Skunked!

The next morning at 5 AM Dan and I headed to Matahina to fish below the dam. The plan was to get an hour or so in before the flows increased to meet the Christmas eve power needs.

Long story short, we had one trout miss our streamer fly and that was it.

So we packed up and had a play on the lake for a little while. The wind came up and Dan finally hooked a big rainbow. It was coming home for the smoker until he made the fatal mistake of under estimating its power. It made one last run with a short line and could not let it run, snap!

I managed to hook one on a bead head mop fly again. It ran around a tree and broke me off. That is the third fish lost on that fly and it has not been ticked off the list yet. It is certainly getting some attention though.

We decided that was enough for one morning being Xmas eve and all. So we went home without landing a fish. I cannot remember that ever happening before.
