So we put in the Rangitaiki River in Murupara around 10 AM. The plan was simple. We would float down river and target a few trout with a size 6 deer hair cicada. It is about a five hour float down to Rabbit Bridge. There are some hazards that can ruin your day so be careful if paddling this river. Flows were high so extra caution was required.
Jack is 13 and just learning to cast a dry fly. We got down to where the big spring creek enters the river. It is a famous place, well, to me anyway. You really cannot get there unless your are in a waka of some sort.
Watch the video. There is no editing at all; just a Dad trying to help his son learn to cast a dry fly. To Jack, it is a challenge. To me, it is all I aspire to. Tight lines.
