Jack and Dad Have a Play

Submitted by Dave on

So Jack and I were hanging out and he wanted to go for a fish. So we headed up to "The Barrell" below the Lake Aniwhenua Dam. We had some heavy rain the day before but the flows were minimal. Jack chucked a soft bait around and got a few looks. I tried sight fishing with a Foam Blowfly. Then I put a pink/orange/cahartreuse globug below. I actually missed a fish with it. Go figure, a glo bug this time of year...

We saw some fish but had no joy. We moved up below the dam and I got one on a bead head zug bug. It looks like a damsel nymph when swimming. Then I got another hard running rainbow on the same fly. Jack hooked a couple of small eels with a soft bait. He was entertained.

We made a plan to float the river the next day...

The real mission was to collect the canoe from Steve. Steve had replaced the seats with aluminium frames and had repainted the whole thing in camo. We were blown away...
