Wee Wet and Emerger Flies

Wee wets are fished down and across much like streamers. They are also fished under a dry fly or even dead drifted. Fishos swear by them and really smash the pocket water and tops of rapids. It is a fun way to fish in fast water. If there are emergers rising, you are in! Some people like to fish them upstream like nymphing. I reckon they are perfect for shallow water and small streams. If a trout sees one, they will eat it, aggressively. The reason is simple; the trout are there because they are hungry and feeding! When the evening rise starts, try one under a dry. Some reckon they are taken as drowned caddis or mayfly adults/spinners. Whatever they are taken as, they are definitely taken.

They also fish extremely well when fishing open water singly or in tandem. Last season I started using them to fish lake edges like we do with buggers and streamers. They worked like a dream and it did not matter what pattern it was. There are a lot of tiny gambusia (mosquito fish) in the weed edges of the Rangitaiki system. I suspect the wee wets imitate them well.
