Elk hair caddis adults are mainly nocturnal and they come out in huge numbers in summer. On overcast days they are on the water all the time and make up a large part of a trout's diet. Trout are used to seeing them flutter across the water. So try dappling or skittereing it past a trout then pause. Do not worry if it sinks either! It is still working. Here in the Bay of Plenty they are in huge numbers. As summer progresses to autumn, they are falling into the water in record numbers all day long.
